Medical Assistant/Receptionist Full-Time, Fixed term contract
Job Summary
Uptown Eye Specialist is currently looking for the position of Medical Assistant / Receptionist to join our amazing team. This role is responsible for offering a quality customer service experience and ensuring that a high level of patient care is always maintained. The ability to ensure that proper assessment of doctors' needs in relation to prepping patients and testing is also required.
Key Responsibilities
Front Desk Role:
- Greet and attend to patients in person and over the phone.
- Schedule appointments on the EMR system between doctors, Optometrist, and patients.
- Professionally assist doctors, staff, visitors, and patients.
- Answer all phone calls in a professional and courteous manner.
- Providing eye care information to the patient
- Liaise between other departments with discretion and professionalism
- Communicate medical results to patients under clinical supervision.
- Complete accurate documentation of patient visits.
- Maintain confidentiality of all doctors, Optometrist, Opticians, staff, and patient information.
- Maintain business inventory such as checking supplies, scheduling equipment, and maintenance repairs.
- Adhere to policy and procedures during all activities.
- Handle daily reporting and communicating through Fax/email to referral doctors, optometrist, hospital and offices.
- Report any concern related to faxing and communication with external providers to site leads.
- Support customer care team by calling patients for clinic and OR booking.
- Perform all duties within HIPAA regulations.
Medical Assistance Role:
- Ensure Clinic and exam rooms patient/medical technician rooms, and patient technician storage are kept neat and tidy.
- Taking ocular measurements (Training will be provided)
- Maintaining and cleaning ophthalmic instruments
- Ability to assist the ophthalmologist/optometrists/optician in preparing patients for treatments and procedures
- Ability to operate ophthalmic instruments and/or equipment (Training will be provided.
- Willing to relocate and help all departments, including but not limited to the front desk, diagnostic rooms, exam rooms, OR rooms, and customer care.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Preferred bilingual Mandarin/ Cantonese and fluent English
- Bachelor’s degree or 2 years diploma, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
- 2 years of experience in healthcare setup.
- Experience in the field of ophthalmology will be preferred.
- Previous experience at an ophthalmic clinic is a strong asset.
- Knowledge of OSCAR EMR is a strong asset
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and computer skills
- Positive attitude, pleasant and professional manner in person and over the phone
- Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed
Job Types: Full-time, One year contract extended to permanent upon performance.
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Scarborough, ON: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
- Travel to other clinic locations in GTA as needed
