Ophthalmic Technologist Full-Time, Fixed term contract
The Ophthalmic Technician floats throughout the clinic to perform patient facing and administrative duties. It is a combination of Patient Technician and Diagnostic Technician duties.
Patient Technician
Job Summary
Patient Technician is responsible for offering a quality customer service experience and
ensuring that a high level of patient care is always maintained. The ability to ensure that
proper assessment of doctors' needs in relation to prepping patients and testing is also
required.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide superior customer service and patient care
  • Respond and/or redirect all patient and visitor requests accordingly
  • Ensure accurate patient documentation recorded in the medical database
  • Gathering medical records and patient information
  • Taking ocular measurements
  • Providing eye care information to the patient
  • Maintaining and cleaning ophthalmic instruments
  • Ability to assist the ophthalmologist in preparing patients for treatments and procedures
  • Ability to operate ophthalmic instruments and/or equipment
  • Ensure exam lanes, patient technician rooms, and patient technician storage are
  • kept neat and tidy
  • Assessing patients’ vision prior to seeing doctors
  • Preparing patients for lasers, injections, and minor procedures
  • Clean and sterilize instruments
  • Replenishing exam lane supplies (drops, syringe, information sheets, etc.) at the end of the day
  • Ensure that all patient interactions are dealt with confidentially and any
  • Confidential paperwork is dealt with in accordance with practice protocol
  • Supports medical administration as needed.
Qualifications & Experience Required
  • Bachelor’s degree or 2 years diploma, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • 2 years of experience in healthcare setup.
  • Previous experience at an ophthalmic clinic is a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of OSCAR EMR is a strong asset
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written and computer skills
  • Can work well independently and within a team
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Candidate must be able to handle a high paced environment
  • Ability to identify problems during procedures
  • Positive attitude, pleasant and professional manner in person and over the phone
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Additional language is an asset
Diagnostic Technician
Key Responsibilities
  • Operating diagnostic machines such as Humphreys Visual fields, OCTs, Hrts, and IOLM
  • Preoperative and postoperative measurements
  • Providing superior patient care and customer service
  • Communicating regularly with physicians
  • Resolving any technical issues
  • Billing Ohip
  • Calibrating and regular maintenance on all diagnostic equipment
  • Use Oscar EMR & Zeiss Forum systems.
  • Managing patient flow
  • Uploading reports on EMR system
  • Assist team lead to improve flow for diagnostic testings.
Qualifications & Experience Required
  • Bachelor’s degree or 2 years diploma, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • 2 years of experience in healthcare preferably eye care setup.
  • Previous experience at an ophthalmic clinic is a strong asset.
  • Experience with various types of diagnostic eye tests is highly preferred.
  • Ability to use Oscar EMR systems is an asset.
  • processing, and managing files and records, and other office procedures and medical terminology.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal skills to communicate with all levels of the organization and its executive team.
  • Positive attitude, pleasant and professional manner in person and over the phone
  • Additional language is an asset.
  • On-the-job training will be provided.
  • Job begins as a 1 year contract, with the possibility of renewal to full-time permanent.

Salary: From $20.00 per hour
